North Sea
1 pirate in the codex documented as operating here.
The North Sea operated jointly with the Baltic as the medieval piracy theatre of the Victualbrüder and the later Likedeeler in the 1390s, with the Frisian Islands and the West Frisian coast providing the principal refuge anchorages. The Hanseatic League’s coordinated suppression of the Likedeeler in 1401 ended the period as one of organised piracy in these waters, though intermittent freelance activity continued at low intensity through the fifteenth century.
