North Atlantic
1 pirate in the codex documented as operating here.
The North Atlantic — the broad sea between Ireland, western Scotland, the Hebrides, Iceland, and (for part of the period) the eastern approaches to Newfoundland — was a secondary piracy theatre for the Gaelic Irish chieftain fleets of the sixteenth century and the Frisian operations of the early fifteenth. Drake’s circumnavigation outbound and the 1585–1586 West Indies expeditions also crossed these waters.
